Wow. Just wow. Joca Lake is something you just have to visit and have a great weekend just as I did. It’s located near Zrenjanin, a small town in Serbia and about 80 km. from Belgarde. A group of us 4 stayed there for 3 days and we had great time fly fishing for pike there.
First of all we had great and friendly hosts there and food was really amazing. We had local game meat and local dishes for lunch. Every day we had organised tractor trailer transport to the lake at 6.00 am and back at 8.00 pm and a whole day to fish there.
Joca lake is a huge lake. Around 500ha with all the islands and reed. The problem was we didn’t bring any boat motors and it was pretty hard to paddle to some good spots. And yeah… It’s not allowed to have a fuel motor but only an electric one.
And the fish… The fish is just amazing. Even if you want you can’t catch anything below 2kg. I’m pretty sure there is a small fish as well but it’s so scared it can’t leave the reed.
I had my first fish on Red Head Pike Fly and it turned out to be the best fly for that day. But in the lack of weed guards I lost all my red head flies… I had a 100+ flies in my fly box but you know that feeling when you need a fly that you trust most and you don’t have it. After a few hours I switched to fusha / white flies and I didn’t take it of my pike wire for the rest of the trip. It was something similar to my Fusha Pike Streamer but a bit bigger one (15cm+).
And a few more pictures…

Great post Milos, looks an awesome place and holds some nice fish by the looks of it as well.
Thanks Simon! It certainly does hold some big fish but it’s mostly on some remote parts of the lake. As I mentioned before it’s not allowed to have a fuel motor so it’s kinda hard to get to them.
Maybe next time! They are still there - waiting for me.
